Visiting Associate Professor Leanne Faulks presents research at ESJ69

【2022.4.14】
Between the 14th-19th March Leanne Faulks from Nagano University’s Institute of Freshwater Biology attended the 69th Annual conference of the Ecological Society of Japan (this year held online due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic). Leanne presented a poster on her research on the genomics of an oomycete pathogen that causes epizootic ulcerative syndrome, a disease that was first identified in Ayu in Japan in the 1970s but now effects hundreds of fish species, both in aquaculture and the wild, across the world. Leanne’s research aims to identify spatial and temporal changes in genetic variation of the pathogen and to use genomic techniques to help understand the evolution of pathogenicity and host specificity. The Institute of Freshwater Biology houses Ayu in indoor ponds and plans to conduct further studies on breeding, disease, and genetics.
