Asst Prof Sakie Kodama presents research on the eDNA detection of fishes

【2021.10.25】
In September 2021 members of the Institute of Freshwater Biology conducted a large-scale eDNA survey of the freshwater fish fauna of the entire Shinano River. Assistant Professor Sakie Kodama will present the results of this survey at the 37th Society of Population Ecology Meeting to be hosted online by Ryukoku University on November 6-7, 2021. The Society of Population Ecology (https://www.population-ecology.jp) is an academic community with a long history of supporting research on biological dynamics, and its English journal Population Ecology is highly regarded internationally. Students are encouraged to check the society’s journal and activities.

The ichthyofauna of Chikuma River: an eDNA survey.
Sakie Kodama, Leanne Faulks and Hiroshi Hakoyama (Institute of Freshwater Biology, Nagano University).

In my presentation, I will report on:
- the patterns of fish faunal diversity found among habitats,
- the relationship between fish fauna and riverine structures,
- the rare species detected, and
- the potential for forecasting the distribution of alien species in Japan.
