Professor Hiroshi Hakoyama attended the River Environment Conservation Monitoring Conference .

【2021.10.7】
The Chikuma River Office of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism is currently working on a restoration project following the Chikuma River disaster caused by Typhoon No. 19. The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism is promoting river maintenance with consideration for the natural environment, and the River Environment Conservation Monitor Conference is a forum for experts to express their opinions on the project from the perspective of biological conservation. Professor Hakoyama attends these meetings as a river environment conservation advisor (fish) and contributes to local watershed management issues. During the meeting, the participants visited the planned construction site for 2021 and the candidate site for public logging, and exchanged opinions at the Chikuma River Office in Nagano City. The photo shows the larvae of the Chinese windmill feeding on Dutchman’s pipe Aristolochia debilis on the Chikuma River bank (as identified by Mr. Ken Noguchi, river environment conservation advisor). The Chikuma River Office is conducting weeding to help protect A. debilis, which is designated as a Class II endangered species by Nagano prefecture.
